Mammals Near Me ?

Post by phil2 »

Mammals Near Me ?

I'm just across the way in Merseyside (Halewood), and interested in seeing what mammals are around here / over the way near Cheshire and Runcorn etc.

I'm particularly interested in where it is good for Foxes (love them), mink, otters, stoats, any badgers and reptiles.

I'm trying to attract more animals into my garden and would love to see some habitats etc. Also, is there a map on the website where I can type in mammal names and obtain a map of sightings of particular mammals ??

Thanks.

On the main navigation, go to RECORDS > DATA SEARCH FACILITY. You can then enter a species name (e.g. Vulpes vulpes) and a year range. The results can be displayed over the Vice County map of Cheshire (VC58)

I've just done the search for Fox between 2003-2013 and it returned over 1700 records!

Also read this: http://www.record-lrc.co.uk/c2.aspx?Mod ... ticleID=13

A more detailed species/location search would involve using the Recorder application, which is used within the RECORD office.

Oh cool, thanks.

I also heard there are Moles here; I am surprised at that!

Not too surprising! But, just 46 records in Cheshire for Moles this year; so very under-reported (or just over-looked?)

RECORD covers the Vice County of Cheshire. Try going to Merseyside Biobank, which covers the North Merseyside area:-

http://www.merseysidebiobank.org.uk/

Their webpage has a Mammal Atlas of the region, which you can use to show distributions of particular species

If you'd like to know more about Badgers, please contact Wirral & Cheshire Badger group at: info@wcbg.org.uk
Also see the groups Facebook page and web site at: http://www.wcbg.org.uk

Hope that helps.
