Cheshire Red Squirrel !

Post by PaulMartinHill »

Cheshire Red Squirrel !:

Exciting news over the weekend when Steve McWilliam was sent a video of a Squirrel coming to a garden feeder in South Warrington. Expecting this to be a reddish Grey Squirrel, imagine our surprise and delight when it turned out to be a RED SQUIRREL (Sciurus vulgaris). The video can be viewed on the Cheshire Mammal Group Blog at: http://cheshiremammals.blogspot.co.uk/

The Cheshire Mammal Group are to be following up the sighting, which may lead to a new exciting project in the county! Fingers crossed.

Amazing. Most surprising news all year.

It raises loads more questions, such as where did it come from?

What we know for sure is that it isn't from the captive population at Walton Hall and Gardens. It is more than likely from one of the Merseyside populations (Knowsley or Fazakerly). Camera trap deployed and "Red" only feeder installed, so hopefully more news next week!
