Am I correct in thinking that the pale dragonfly below is a Common Darter and the other is a Southern Hawker (both being females) ? They were observed over the last couple of days in Gee Cross (SJ9593).

Yes you are correct, the first one is Sympetrum striolatum but it is a somewhat teneral male. The other is a teneral female Aeshna cyanea.

I didn't suspect that it was a teneral male. I thought that the reddish colouration on the abdomen was the result of it being an ageing female.
