OS Opendata

Post by fletcher »

Hi All,

I am not sure whether you are all aware that in April and May of this year (2010) the Ordnance Survey made a number of their datasets available as free downloads from the opendata area of their website.

Datasets include OS Streetview and Vector District, administrative boundaries (unitary authorities, Parishes, Wards), Post code information and contour info too. In all it provides a very useful tool for viewing geographical information, assuming you have a GIS program that is.

However, if you want to make use of this free data you can download free mapping systems now that will allow you to view raster files and perform simple queries using boundary files.

As many of these free programs have a print function you are able to print the OS maps, to aid recording, under their opendata license.

Hopefully we can really start to make use of this fantastic resource.
