Magpie at Feeding Table:

Hi All,

I have lived at my present address for 35 years and during which I never seen a Magpie (Pica pica) at the bird feeder. The bird is common enough around the area having been over the garden and on the rooves round about. Last week I mixed suet into the normal bird seed, next thing, wham, a Magpie on the table in no time. How did it know ??

Cheers,
Harry

I think in case you try putting seed on a tray on the floor you will find the pigeon pick eating from there against the feeders if you slowly pass this far away from the feeders say 1m an afternoon then the smaller birds are loose to consume without a fear and the pigeons are nevertheless getting fed.
