Dark Green Fritillary (Argynnis aglaja):

It would appear that the Dark Green Fritillary (Argynnis aglaja) is having a good year at its breeding sites outside the county. There had been no sightings in Cheshire in 2011 or 2012, but this month Barry Shaw tells me he has already received reports of a large fritillary (almost certainly a Dark Green) at Frodsham Marsh on the 13th July 2013, another at Dane-in-Shaw, Congleton on the same day and one at Higher Hurdsfield on the 20th July. To which I can add one briefly on the Black Knapweed in my garden meadow at Higher Poynton today (26th July 2013).

Regards,
Steve
