A Good Butterfly Day ?

Today (Wednesday 8th September 2010) has been quite a good day for butterflies in Runcorn, Cheshire.

Overall 7 species have been recorded - Speckled Wood, Red Admiral, Painted Lady, Small Tortoiseshell, Comma, Large White and Small White. Most at the Butterfly Bush (Buddleia davidii) but not all - some just investigating the garden and then flying through.

A pity the rest of this years 'Summer' was not as productive - around Runcorn anyway.

You did alright, just 7 Speckled woods and 7 seven spot ladybirds and 2 white butterflies were seen at Handforth Dean this afternoon. Some hoverflies and other interesting looking flies there too but alas I can't id diptera at the mo. Perhaps I should learn coz that is all I get in my garden.
