Leek Moth (Acrolepiopsis assectella) ??
I trapped the micro below on the night of 03/04/2017, and although I thought I recognised it, I could not immediately put a name to it. After photographing it, I later released it.
Now that I look at the images, I think it is Leek Moth (Acrolepiopsis assectella). I had previously seen this species in Dorset in 2015.
Several members of the forum have recorded this species in Cheshire, so I would appreciate any comments.
If the larvae feed on ‘wild’ leeks, I grow Three-cornered Leeks (Allium triquetrum) in abundance, due to planting a few bulbs many years ago. I’ve been fighting to get rid of them ever since, pulling up 100’s of plants every year.
If anybody wants any, just let me know.
Mel.
