A Lovely Sunny Afternoon

A Lovely Sunny Afternoon:

Hi to all,

Having bought a set of Pheromones,I thought that I would try for the Emperor at Thurstaston, Wirral.

Within 10 minutes of arrival I had 3-4 males, one in the car. Great sport and will help in recording new sites.

If a male landed they seem to like to rest on Hawthorn.

Barry

Hi Barry,

What a great photo of a stunning Moth. I've seen plenty of females but never a male.
Looks like Pheromones could be the answer.

Inspired by your post Barry, I went straight down to the pheromone shop and then to Thurstaston Country Park where I managed to attract around 15 Emperor moths. Most didn't settle but I did manage to net one for the photo.

Next stop was a a birding holiday in Lesvos, and I wondered if I could attract the Great Peacock Moth, which I believe is the largest moth in Europe. Yes, Yes, Yes, ---- Not 1, not 2, but 3 of the wonderful beasts were attracted.

Fantastic, and more than making up for a lousy season so far in Handbridge.

So thank you Barry for the inspiration.

Kevin.
