Awful ...... Again

Post by SteveH »

Awful ...... Again:

Morning Folks,

Flushed with the success of finding Oak-tree Pug (only our third ever) on the wall around 10pm, I rather stupidly took a chair outside this morning to decant the rest of the contents of the trap in comfort. In actuality, it turned out to be that I took a chair for a brief three minute walk. One Hebrew Character and one Mompha sturnipenella completed the nights' catch.

Can't wait for May !

Cheers,
Steve

Terrible here too, after a run of decent nights late March/early April.

Last night:

6 Dyseriocrania subpurpurella.
2 Common Quaker.
2 Hebrew Character.
1 Pale Pinion.

After next week's arctic weather, it must get better !

Cheers,
Paul

Same here last night, temp down to 4c hence low turnout.

3 Hebrew Characters.
1 Common Quaker.
1 Brindled Pug.
1 Flame Shoulder (NFY).
1 LBAM..

Not much better at Norley Moss (Delamere) - 12 Moths of 7 species - NFY Coxcomb Prominent and Scalloped Hook-tip.

Morning All,

Nothing to get excited about in my trap either, and as Steve stated, it is hardly worth getting a seat out, but Mompha sturnipennella would be a 'lifer' for me and any night when I recorded Pale Pinion would be memorable.

Does that make my efforts even more 'Awful' '?

1 Yellow-barred Brindle.
1 D/S Pug,
1 Brindled Pug,
2 Hebrew Character,
1 White-shouldered House-moth.

Mel.

Thursday 20th was better for me in Christleton, with Yellow-barred Brindle, Muslin Moth and Flame Carpet to accompany the worn-looking Common Quakers, Clouded Drabs and Hebrew Characters.

I've also recently begun trapping at a site near Maeshafn, Denbighshire. Night of 16th promised well with a Purple Thorn adding excitement for me, but last night up there was a grave disappointment, with five minutes all that was needed to decant the meagre resuls, with best being a very tattered Twin-spotted Quaker. Long-range forecast seems to suggest it will be unseasonably cold till mid-May, so not much hope there.

Hi Mel,

Sorry for tardiness in replying - been tied up writing the Moth Report for 2016, but yes, your catches would merit 'truly awful'. :-)

I've been considering changing the location of my trap ..... to the dustbin !

Cheers,
Steve
