Grey Pine Carpet ??
Hi All,
This appeared in the trap last night, I'm thinking Grey Pine Carpet (Thera obeliscata). Usual apologies for standard of picture, it was quite a lively moth so had to leave it in the tube.
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Grey Pine Carpet ??
Hi Rob,
Although it's fairly worn I'm pretty sure your moth is a Spruce Carpet (Thera britannica). If you look at the cross band on the Grey Pine Carpet it is usually quite narrow and smooth, whereas the Spruce Carpet is usually broader and
more fluted. (the thickness of the cross band on your image is more typical, the fluting is quite noticeable though).
Pics below for comparison.

Hi Greg,
Yes I see your point. I doubted it was a Spruce because I caught one similar to your picture (nice and smart one) in the same trap as this one !! And I thought I had the Carpets sorted ........
Well done for analysing my iffy picture !!
Cheers,
Rob
