Bucculatrix bechsteinella And Others ......

Post by SteveH »

Bucculatrix bechsteinella And Others ......:

Hi Folks,

Local patching on Gowy Meadows on Sunday produced three more new species for the reserve in the forms of Slender Pug, Eudonia pallida and Paraswammerdamia nebulella. I was also delighted to find the larva and cocoon of Bucculatrix bechsteinella - just the second time I've ever found it.

There was also the attached tortrix which I couldn't put a name to.

Epinotia nisella - SJ4373 - 16th July 2017

Nice to see a picture of Bucculatrix bechsteinella larva. It's usually not until the Autumn that I venture over your way, by which time they have all pupated.

Can't put a name to your Tortrix, unless it's a form of Epinotia nisella ???

Regards,
Steve

Cheers Steve.

Even with all the other stuff I saw on the day, the Bucculatrix was the highlight for me ...... or was it Ruby-tailed Wasp !?

I did think E.nisella too but am not that familiar with it to be sure - will hit the books again and see if I can find a similar plumage.

Cheers,
Steve

****** Update: having done more work into this individuals' identity, I'm now confident it is in fact E.nisella. *****
