Macros for ID and Confirmation

Post by bobhelencoan »

Macros for ID and Confirmation:

Good night for us here Saturday night. Over 80 species but some had obviously come through some rain !

1. Plain Wave. At first we thought Riband Wave but it did not just look right.
2. Dark Spinach. Female laid eggs so larva should confirm ID.
3. A very work specimen but is there enough detail left to ID as Bordered Sallow ? The body is yellow with bands.

Help appreciated.

Hi Bob and Helen,

Yes, Plain Wave, Dark Spinach and the last one could even be a Scarce Bordered Straw, going on what is left of it's wing markings and colour.

I'd be interested to know what anyone else thinks.

Greg

The third cross line doesn't seem to have a kink on the right hand wing but on the left wing it does, so on reflection I'll agree on a Riband Wave.

Thanks for ID, we can see the kinks now ! Riband Wave it is.

Not surprisingly the battered moth died. This gave us the chance to photograph it again. Sadly the underwings were too battered to show anything. Feel sure it is a Bordered Sallow but would appreciate others ideas. It was on the small size for Scarce Bordered Straw.

Yes to Bordered Sallow, presumably from North Wales or The Wirral.
