Astbury Mere:
Joined Steve Seal and Jack Swan for a mothing session at Astbury Mere, Congleton last Monday 24/07/2017. We ran four MV and an actinic light in and around the car park. Actually all in the car park after midnight, when the dew started to form in the grass, cooling the temperature and putting a stop to incoming moths. The hard standing in the car park kept the temperature up and new arrivals continued to appear. We started packing up around 1am but it was 2:30am before we finally left.
This was the first ever trapping session in the park, so most of the 112 species were new for the site, although these also including 15 new to SJ86:
Parornix betulae; Ypsolopha scabrella; Bryotropha domestica; Bryotropha senectella; Acleris forsskaleana; Spilonota ocellana; Epinotia nisella; Eucosma campoliliana; Rhyacionia pinicolana; Euzophera pinguis; Udea ferrugalis; Calamotropha paludella; Small Blood-vein; Maple Pug & Buff Footman.
and a further eight which had not been seen in SJ86 this century:
Hofmannophila pseudospretella; Hypsopygia glaucinalis; Acentria ephemerella (the first since 1943); Golden-rod Pug; Barred Red; Small Rufous; Slender Brindle & Least Yellow Underwing.
