July Ending In A Whimper

July Ending In A Whimper:

Hi Folks,

With just one more session possible before its August, last nights' trap was notable only for attracting the rather lovely Bombus hypnorum bee - something we get regularly in the garden these days but this may well have been a first for the trap !

From a meagre 22 species, three managed to be NFY (Dark Spectacle, Nutmeg and Square-spot Rustic). To date we've recorded 58 species that we didn't get at all last year, which is an astonishing figure.

This year July is currently fractionally below our average, at 160 species (average is 165) so not too bad what with several nights being severely impacted on by monsoon conditions. Cumulatively speaking July is our best month, at 493 species, but both June (403) and August (432) are over the 400 species mark too.

Cheers,
Steve
