Dane Cottage, Wildboarclough - 17/08/2017:

Six traps were run overnight at Dane Cottage on 17/08/2017, producing 533 moths of 75 species. However, a good number of individuals were ignored from these totals having lost most of their scales during the recent heavy rains. One moth which must have been initially ignored due to its condition, as I only noticed it later in the day whilst emptying the car, was this Oblique Carpet, which was new for the site.

The spots on the hindwings helped to eliminate Oblique Striped and Many-lined.

Other species new to the site were Phycitodes maritima, Chinese Character and Least Yellow Underwing.

Some of the other highlights were Opostega salaciella, 8 Mirificarma mulinella, 4 Scalloped Hook-tip, 2 Purple Bar, 10+ Dark Marbled Carpet, 2 Devon Carpet, 5 Twin-spot Carpet, Triple-spotted Pug, Sallow Kitten, Ruby Tiger, Scarce Footman, Ear Moth, 4 Small Wainscot, 2 Barred Chestnut and 2 Autumnal Rustic.

Steve
