Sycamore & Rosebay Willowherb Mines

Post by bobhelencoan »

Sycamore & Rosebay Willowherb Mines:

Not sure about any of these three.

1. Rosebay Willowherb gallery mine on the edge of a leaf.
2. Round blotch on leaf. May not be a moth.
3. Tented mine, blotch on the underside.

Again, all found 20th August 2017.

Any help appreciated.

Your Rosebay Willowherb mine will be Mompha raschkiella.

The round blotch may be fungal.

Your tented mine will be an old Phyllonorycter geniculella. You may still be able to see the odd crease on the underside.

An extra thank you is due.

I was on Gowy Meadows on Saturday morning and idly taking time out from watching a Lesser Whitethroat found Mompha rashkiella mines on Rosebay Willowherb !

A first for the reserve though I guess only due to me not looking for them before now.

Cheers,
Steve
