Hobson Moor

Hobson Moor:

I managed to find 50 species of moth during a walk along Hobson Moor Road, Matley on 26/09/2017, far more than I had thought would be possible in such an upland site. All but one, Anthophila fabriciana, were in their larval stage.

I was most pleased with the larva of Epinotia tetraquetrana on Birch in Hobson Moor Quarry.

Likewise second generation Stigmella perpygmaeella larvae are now active, helping to confirm the identification of this species.
