More Moths In Spain

Post by bobhelencoan »

More Moths In Spain:

Some moths seem similar to UK varieties but we would appreciate any help to perhaps even get the family to which they belong.

1. A plume moth.
2. Possibly one of the Blastobasis family.
3. Unknown micro 4.
4. Micro similar to Mother of Pearl. From colour of front edge looks like Hodebertia testalis on the web.
5. Crambinae species ?
6. Similar to Cabbage Moth and Nutmeg. Underwing white with narrow brown border.

Hi Bob & Helen,

Your macro looks very much like a Dark Brocade. The UK flight period is usually May to early August. But, in
Spain there could be a second generation.

Greg

Greg, thanks for your help. The Dark Brocade is not listed in our Murcia book but we are finding the Spanish use different names for the moths ! We have found a site that says the species does exist in Spain but does not state where. We are beginning to feel that our mothing attempts out here are not of much use. Just to top that they arrived and painted the outside of our apartment today !! Enough to put any moths off coming to our balcony light.

Think we have solved the macro moth thanks to your suggestion of Dark brocade Greg.
A common moth in southern Spain is Blepharita spinosa, same family as the Dark Brocade.
