Incurvaria pectinae ?
On one Alder tree several leaves had random holes and looked just like the book pictures for Incurvaria pectinae activity. We found one leaf with blotch mines and wondered if these were the mines of Incurvaria pectinae before the larva cuts out the hole. Books etc. suggest they could be the activity of the sawfly Fenusa dohrnii.
Are the holes in the leaves enough to record the presence of Incurvaria pectinae.
Could anyone help with the leaf mines ID ?
Thanks,
Bob & Helen

Re: Incurvaria pectinae ?
Hi Bob & Helen,
I have only found Incurvaria pectinea larvae feeding in the leaves during May. Fairly sure these are the early mines of Fenusa dohrnii, as you suggest, as this species is a common miner on Alder.
Regards,
Steve
