Ghost Swift ?
A fellow birder sent me these photos which he took in his garden this a.m. I thought Swift family straight away, but the markings are very random and don't seem typical at all. I guess it has to be but ......
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Ghost Swift ?
Hi Andy,
Yes, a Map-winged Swift, of which the markings are quite variable. The female Ghost Moth is yellow with orange markings and considerably larger, the males are all white with yellow head and thorax.
A couple of pics below for comparison.
Regards,
Greg

Re: Ghost Swift ?
Thanks Greg.
I had caught a female Ghost Moth of my own on the previous night, so I could see that the diferences were obvious. It still looks odd for Map-winged though, certainly nothing like the pattern shown is visible on the Internet. I suppose you had to see it for yourself to get a feel for the size and colour (the camera can lie).
