Leaf Mines; Help Please

Post by Tim_Ward »

Leaf Mines; Help Please:

The first of the leaf mines below was found on Oak when walking in the woods in Swettenham today. I thought it might be Tischeria ekebladella but would welcome confirmation.

The second leaf mine (3 photos) was found on Hawthorn in my back garden this evening. I think it might be Parornix anglicella but, again, I'd welcome confirmation.

The third leaf mine was also found in my garden this evening, on Hazel, and I've no idea what it is (or even if it belongs to a moth).

Tim

Hi Tim,

Your Parornix ID is spot on.

The Oak mine I'm not sure about but it would be early for Tischeria ekebladella .....

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve.

Do you think this could be Dyseriocrania subpurpurella if it is too early for Tischeria ekebladella ?

Hi Tim,

The Oak mine will most likely be made by the sawfly Profenusa pygmaea, which is often common.

Regards,
Steve
