Disappointing night at Bickerton Hill as well. UNTIL.

Post by Greg »

Morning All

It was a quiet night's trap at Bickerton Hill last night.
Just 12 species. Most numerous was Flounced Rustic, 6 off.
We were just beginning to pack up quite disappointed when this beauty flew in,
which was my first. Made it all worth while.

Golden-rod Brindle is one of my target species on Moel Findeg. Doesn't look too likely in Denbighshire from the dot map on N Wales Lepidoptera, but neither do Heath Rustic and Neglected Rustic, both of which turned up in the trap on Friday morning, so here's hoping.

Hi Greg,

this is an excellent record and somewhat distant from all other recent records from the extreme east of the County.

I've attached a distribution map from the up-coming e-Atlas for VC58 to show the situation.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the info. I've been intending to trap at Norley Moss this month in hope of possibly tracking down
Golden-rod Brindle. There is plenty of food plants available ie. Bog Myrtle, Bilberry, Heather etc.
There are also historical records up to the mid 1950's from Delamere so I was hopeful that they were still
there. The Bickerton Hill specimen was a pleasant surprise. There is plenty of Bilberry and Heather on site,
so there could be a reasonable colony present.

Regards
Greg
