Micro help please!

Post by andrewjcharlton »

Hi,

these two micros I've puzzled over for 48 hours.
The smaller one (5mm) (DSCN 6354) I can't place at all.

The larger one (10mm) (DSCN 6374) I've decided tonight is possibly Roeslerstammia erxlebella.
Seems slightly longer winged than C. unitella, lacks the yellow legs and has never shown head-down posture.
Can any one confirm that?

Thank you.

Andrew

Don't take this as a confirmation - I've never seen one! - but your photo definitely shows a white band on the antennae (unless it's a reflection!), which is one of the characteristics of Roeslerstammia erxlebella (according to Manley, and to Sterling and Parsons).

Thank you for your comment.
Yes it does indeed have the white band (shown more convincingly on the photo I've added to this).
This would be a new species for me and I'm not sure if this feature is diagnostic.
