The blunderwings are coming...!

Post by SteveH »

Morning folks,

last night was actually quite good, with three NFYs from 133 moths of 41 species...despite the overnight deluge.

Of more interest perhaps was the 25 Large Yellow Underwings, almost as many as all previous trapping sessions combined!

Here's some stats from the garden on some thought-to-be very common species currently not enjoying a good year.

Large Yellow Underwing: Average since 1991is 591 per year, this year so far, 60
Lesser Yellow Underwing: Average: 143, this year, four
Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing: Average: 42, this year, six
Dark Arches: Average 406, this year, 96

Cheers,
Steve

Yes Large Yellow Underwings were in small numbers until a couple of days ago - but nearly 50 this morning . Have had reasonable numbers of lesser Broad borders for several weeks now but only just starting to see Lesser Yellow Underwings. However lots of Setaceous Hebrew Characters the most numerous macro in trap recently - having 30-40 plus over several nights and a total of 398 so far this year.
