Warm, calm and cloudy last night made for perfect conditions, reflected in a decent catch. Barred Sallow in particular put in a spectacular showing!
26 Barred Sallow
4 Snout
3 Shuttle-shaped Dart
3 Merveille du Jour
3 Common Marlbled Carpet
3 Acleris sparsana
2 Chestnut
2 Copper Underwing agg.
2 November Moth agg.
2 Red-green Carpet
2 Red-line Quaker
2 Blair's Shoulder-knot
2 Ypsolopha ustella
1 Large Yellow Underwing
1 Pink-barred Sallow
1 Autumnal Rustic
1 Garden Carpet
1 Light-brown Apple Moth
1 Tachystola acroxantha
1 Ypsolopha sequella
1 Aproaerema anthyllidella
The A. anthyllidella follows one I had in July, this picture shows some of the markings a bit better I think. Surprising to find it in my garden/woodland habitat, UK Moths has it as occurring in "dunes, dry grassland and rough pasture where kidney vetch occurs".
The Y. ustellas are very different forms, but I'm pretty sure that's what they are.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul
An impressive catch. But 1 Large yellow Underwing? How disappointing.

Re: Good October catch
We don't have many records of Aproaerema anthyllidella in Cheshire and most of the few we have are from the Wirral coast, so these are excellent inland finds.
Barred Sallow was new to my garden last year and I've already had four this year. Is it generally becoming more common in Cheshire, or just having a good year ?
Regards
Steve

Re: Good October catch
Hi Steve
Re Barred Sallow, I had the first two in my New Brighton garden on 4/10, so maybe they are increasing their range.
Hopefully the same will apply for Merveille du Jour, send me one over please chaps!
Cheers
