I put two traps out at Burton Mere Wetlands on Thursday (14th) evening. With clear skies after a sunny day, the temperature was already plummeting, and to be totally honest, if I hadn't had promised moths for a photography workshop that was happening the following day I wouldn't have bothered.
There was a thick ground frost the Friday morning and I expected the traps to be empty. How wrong I was. Apart from a good count of 30 Dotted Border, there was also singles of Common Quaker and Hebrew Character, along with 10 March Moth and singles of Dark Chestnut and Satellite.
However, moth of the night was this superbly pristine Red Sword-grass. The second record for Burton Mere.
