larvae in thistle stems

Post by bobhelencoan »

Since mothing has not been good on a ice day we went for a walk and collected hogweed and thistle stems to refill our bug house. In a hog weed stem we found what we are certain is a ruby tiger larva. I a couple of thistle stems we found a couple of larvae, images posted below. Looking a t the micro moths field trips book, hoping it would be a Myelois circumvolute larva . It looks more like a Epiblema scutulana larva (page 56) which also feed on thistle stems. We have 2 larva so hope something will hatch. Bob & Helen
