Numbers Going the Wrong Way

Post by melbellingham »

Yes, numbers are definitely going the wrong way again, although they hadn’t actually improved much for me recently.

The last few nights have seen both species and numbers reducing.

Last night (19/05/2019) despite the overnight low being 9.9 deg C and hardly a breath of wind, I only had 4 moths of three species, consisting of 2 Common Pugs plus 1 each of Light-brown Apple-moth and Tachystola acroxantha.

Hardly any flies either, so it probably wasn’t all bad news, as I’m assuming it indicates that the conditions were not ideal.

Must try harder.

I've probably not trapped for over two weeks now since I've not yet worked out why the whole house trips out when I plug the trap in ..... having said that It seems I'm not missing out on too much :-)

In the field I'm doing OK though: Copper Underwing larva, Nematopogon schwarziellus and the other one with the longer name, Small Yellow Underwing, Pyrausta aurata, and of course Celypha lacunana. Had Green Oak Tortrix in the house today too!

Cheers,
Steve
