Caterpillar ID check request

Hi, a friend asked if we could ID this caterpillar from her garden in Manchester. She said that it was a large caterpillar and we considered whether it may be a parsnip moth caterpillar. Any help and clarification would be welcome please.

my lack of knowledge on the larval front is the stuff of legend but I'd be thinking this was a sawfly larva... others may disagree of course!
