Last Saturday's catch

Post by stevehind »

Conditions appeared favourable last Saturday night, 1st June 2019, so I ran a couple of traps in the garden and caught almost 400 moths:

The Argyresthia will have been glabratella.
Most of the Coleophora will have been caespititiella
I should have retained the Dichrorampha, assuming at the time it would have been montanana, which breeds in the garden but not seen any amongst the Tansy yet, so maybe one of the others.
Scorched Carpet was new to East Cheshire. My only previous record of Clay Triple-lines was in 2008 and I’ve caught Platyptilia gonodactyla on only two previous occasions.

The 15 Neofaculta ericetella were unexpected, as I’ve only had nine in total here over the years and none in the last six years, so not sure where these have come from, unless they are now breeding on the heathers in the front garden.
Regards
Steve

I think we've now had 5 Neofaculta ericetella this year, which is 5 more more than we had last year, although you'd previously found this micro here.

Perhaps last year's unusually dry weather is the cause?
