Leaf spinning at Danes Moss today

Post by Tim_Ward »

I found this leaf spinning on Silver Birch today at Danes Moss. I've provisionally identified it as Anacampsis blattariella, based on a photo in Ben Smart's book but are there other possibilities?
I'm reluctant to open up spinnings such as these but will do so if this is the only way to make id's. Advice please.
Tim

Hi Tim
Deporaus betulae - Birch Leaf-roller Weevil - note how the leaf is cut in the middle and only part of the leaf is rolled.

Thanks Steve. If I keep going with the fieldwork for the next 100 years I may eventually be able to correctly identify all the mines, spinnings, rollings and folds!
