This tiny micro (3mm) appeared in my overflowing trap last night. I've provisionally identified it as Ectoedemia decentella. I gather that species E. sericopeza and E. louisella are similar but are restricted to more southerly regions? Please can you confirm.
Thanks, Tim

Looks good to me Greg - its a Category 2A species so you have enough for the ID.

Cheers,
Steve

E. sericopeza and E. louisella both occur in Cheshire. Best found by looking for the mines in the keys of Norway & Field Maples.

Hi Tim
I don't normally dissect the Nepticulidae, as they are too small for me and most are best identified from their leaf mines, or in this case, samara mine. This is also one of the few which does not require dissecting, as the adults are distinctive and photos are usually adequate.

I was not disagreeing with your ID, just commenting on your quote
