Post by bobhelencoan »

Three micros we think could be paraswammerdamia species.
1. Paraswammerdamia alibicapitella
2. Paraswammerdmia caesiella or nebulella
3. another Paraswammerdamia caesiella or nebulella
Help with ID appreciated. Bob & Helen

Hi Bob & Helen
Paraswammerdamia nebulella is abundant in Cheshire in July. Walk past any hawthorn hedge and tap it with a stick in the early evening and you will see a number of these. A common species in our gardens, they are regularly caught in light traps. I suspect all your specimens will be Paraswammerdamia nebulella.
The lack of any birch heathland near you would probably rule out Swammerdamia caesiella and photos of Paraswammerdamia albicapitella on the web show an obvious white thorax and the veins appear to be more obviously chequered than your example.
Regards
Steve
