Melanic Apple Leaf Miner??..

Post by melbellingham »

It was really too cold last night (16/10/2019) for sensible moth-ers to bother, but I did put my trap out for a few hours. At 2245hrs the temperature was 7.9 deg C, but felt a lot colder, as I put it away.

I did manage to attract 2 moths. I found Blair's Shoulder-knot on the wall above the trap, and a small micro in the trap.

It took a while to ID., but I eventually decided on Lyonetia clerkella Apple Leaf Miner. The difficulty was because it was very small (it looked noticably 'slimmer' than the paler specimens) and dark.

As usual with micro's, confirmation, correction or suggestions would be appreciated.
