An "Early" Start to the Year

Post by melbellingham »

Morning all, and a Happy Moth Filled New Year.

It was 10 deg. C at 1700hrs last night (02/01/20), so I thought well worth setting the trap. The last check was at 2300 hrs, the temperature was 9.9 deg. C, but I found no moths.

Checking this morning the temperature was now 5.9 deg. C, but I found Early Moth on the trap and Winter Moth above it on the wall. I wasn’t too disappointed when I found nothing in the trap.

Early Moth is not regular in my garden, and “all” of my previous records have been in February, both of them, in 2011 and 2015.
Early Moth - 02/01/2020

Hi Mel

It may have been too windy for the Geometridae last night in my garden, as there was nothing around my light when I checked it but a very early Hebrew Character was inside the trap this morning.

Regards
Steve
