Slow Progress at Present.......

Post by melbellingham »

Two macro's NFY in the garden since my last post, but also a blank.

GMS (06/03/2020 min. temperature 3.5 deg. C) the first week of the 'summer' period produced 2 Small Quaker (NFY) and 1 Hebrew Character.

Tried my 20W actinic lamp (07/03/2020 - min. temp. 7.2 deg. C) and blanked.

Last night (08/03/2020 - min. 5.5 deg. C) 125W MV produced Brindled Pug (NFY) and Agonopterix heracliana/ciliella.

Hi Steve,

It is encouraging to know that someone is starting to record a few species.

It is also frustrating when the temperature starts around 7 deg. C, as it did last night, then climbs to 11 C overnight, but the almost constant rain and wind in the early part of the night, prevented me from putting the trap out.

It's been a very frustrating couple of months this year so far. Only two species recorded.
The times I thought it was suitable weather to put the trap out resulted in zero moths.
It's good to see that someones getting results. It's looking like another wet one tonight
but I'll put the trap out regardless.

Pretty much the same for me as everyone else. February was terrible, I didn't catch a single moth. (Mind you, I didn't put the trap out once so that's not really surprising).

GMS night on Fri 6th Mar did turn up a few moths: 2 Brindled Pug, 2 Clouded Drab, 1 Agonopterix heracliana/ciliella, 1 Oak Beauty, 4 Small Quaker, 1 Chestnut, 1 Twin-spotted Quaker.

I must say though, I have a good feeling about tonight - it's very mild today and that looks like continuing well into the night, without too much in the way of wind and rain according to Accuweather. Fingers crossed!

Cheers
Paul
