First moth of 2020

Post by SteveH »

Hi folks,

if I discount things like old mines of Stigmella aurella and larval feeding evidence of Limnaecia phragmitella then todays (16-03) Double-striped Pug becomes my first moth of the year!

Cheers,
Steve

That's an incredibly colourful critter. It even makes the "strongly-marked specimen" in the pug bible look drab, sad and washed out!

A nice start to the year.

Cheers, Julian

Well there's a coincidence. Just back from Lanzarote where my first moth was (I think) Double Striped Pug - or possibly the Canary Island variant. No expert though, so I'd be grateful for confirmation.
Overnight temperatures there just a tad higher than here and the local geckos all seem to be keen moth-ers, using the tried and tested light trap method!
Tom.

If it was in my trap at Brandreth Towers#2 I would agree, but with the caveat that its one of our European friends

Had to wear sun glasses to take the photo Julian!

DSPugs we get are generally nice jobbies - unlike so many others that are either melanics, scale-less or both!

Cheers,
Steve
