Moth eggs

Post by swampthing »

A buff footman laid a small quantity of eggs today in the retaining pot. If they are left, will they hatch in these circumstances? I presume rearing them is out of the question as I don't think they eat leaves. Shall I just brush them away? Hate to see it waste its efforts really.

Cheers,

Footmen can be reared using dried dandelion leaves and twigs covered in algae. We have reared Dingy footmen. Last week of 14 dingy footman 10 laid eggs. Personally we sometimes have difficulty to distinguish between Buff and Dingy footmen. Rearing the larve does allow the moth to be positively identified. Bob & Helen
