Nocturnal Ichneumons From Moth Traps and Other Lightsources

Post by SteveMcBill »

Nocturnal Ichneumons From Moth Traps and Other Lightsources:

Gavin Broad is running a "Nocturnal Ichneumon Project" which is continuing to run throughout 2016.

Gavin wants specimens of Nocturnal Ichneumons from Moth Traps and other light sources to look for new species and to plot distributions across Britain.

Specimens should be sent to: Gavin Broad, Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London, SW7 5BD

They should be sent in tubes of alcohol sealed in plastic bags in Jiffy Bags; or papered, or dry in tubes with some tissue to buffer them; or pinned is good if they can be sent in a cardboard box with sufficient packing material to entirely cushion the specimen box.

Essential data to be included with each specimen are:
1) Date;
2) Grid Reference, preferably 6 figure or more;
3) Locality (Site Name, Town, County);
4) Trapping Method (e.g. UV, MV bulb);
5) Recorder’s Name.
Any other data, such as habitat information, will also be welcome.

Please help if you can. Very little is known about these insects and during the life of the project new to science species have been found. Without the specimens Gavin cannot construct keys to enable us to more easily identify them and to increase our understanding of their distribution in the UK.
