Beautiful Hornet

Post by macchi »

Beautiful Hornet:

We've had a Hornets' nest under the eaves in our porch all year and I thought I'd send a photo. They are beautiful and didn't cause any trouble at all (a little disconcerting when they came into the kitchen by mistake though).

All but one gone now.

Are they unusual in Cheshire (Shocklach) ?

Best wishes.
Alison

Great pics Alison.

I love hornets and I wish we'd had some nesting nearby. Sadly I've never seen one in Cheshire although I briefly attained hero status a few summers ago in a restaurant in Cornwall, when one flew in through the open window and cleared the place. I amazed the terrified staff by coaxing it onto my bare hand and carrying it outside. (Southern jessies !).

My only other UK sighting was in Richmond Park about 20 years ago, so I hope they're creeping northwards.

Cheers,
Tom.
