Mysterious red blob!

Postby hannah on Fri Sep 17, 2010 11:03 am

Dear All,

I attach some photos of a mysterious red blob that was found at the CMI!
event Life on the Hedge on 11th September, down on Claremont Farm.

The 'blob' was spotted in a tree quite high up, so we don't have any close
up pics.

If anyone can tell us what it is, we would be very grateful.

Thanks

Hannah

P.S - Not really sure if it should go in this forum - so have posted in
Fungi as well!

More information:

This has been Identified on the iSpot forum as Beefsteak Fungus (Fistulina hepatica)

More images here: http://www.google.co.uk/images?q=beefsteak+fungus&rls=com.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox&oe=&rlz=&redir_esc=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=h1SkTNWXD8eV4gb34NWIDQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4&ved=0CDwQsAQwAw&biw=1259&bih=839

What does everyone else think? I am not sure, as it was more pineapple shaped, than these photos show.

Thanks

Hannah
