‘The Big Garden Birdwatch’

At Hale Park 29th January 2011.

Take the chance to get involved in a national survey in conjunction with the RSPB and the Hale Heritage Champion, the Artery of Life Project officer will be on hand to identify common bird species and discuss what brings them to this popular site.

Starting at 11am and counting birds seen in the hour, our results will be fed into the national records and provide important data to monitor our feathered friends, over 30 years of previous records have enabled us to monitor crashes in House Sparrow and Starling populations and may help to aid their recovery.

No prior knowledge required, bring binoculars if you have them and wrap up warm.

Please ensure all records are entered into RODIS (http://www.rECOrd-LRC.co.uk) or are sent via e-mail to Tom at the rECOrd offices (tom@rECOrd-LRC.co.uk).

Thank you.

yeah didnt do too bad actually - lots of people/children and even teenagers made it a great event, the Buzzard was a real star too - right in fron of us doing a circuit around the park from tree to tree and pacing around on the grass in front of us!

The close proximity to decent agricultural land added to the Woodie tally and all that wonderful woodland gave us a Pecker fest!!

Submitted into RSPB and RODIS too (its update day today!)

cheers Steve - how did you get on?

Standard list of Garden Birds here at Runcorn mate:

- Blackbird
- Robin
- Greenfinch
- Goldfinch
- Dunnock/Hedge Accentor
- Woodpigeon
- Collared Dove
- House Sparrow
- Starling
- Wren
- Great Tit
- Blue Tit
- Long-tailed Tit

Quite happy with that though have had FAR more individuals this morning than the hour I did on Saturday !! I wonder how many other people did the Big Garden Birdwatch over the weekend in the rECOrd area (Cheshire, Halton, Warrington, Wirral and Stockport) and how many submitted their data to RSPB and how few have sent their records in to rECOrd either via RODIS (http://www.rECOrd-lrc.co.uk) or by e-mail to Tom at: tom@rECOrd-LRC.co.uk ???

Cheers mate

Steve
