Consultation Form:

As you may be aware if you frequent the NBN forum, JNCC has announced its intention to cease all support for Recorder-6 from the end of this financial year (i.e. April 2018) - https://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=7028

This move could potentially have a huge impact upon LRCs (inc. rECOrd) as most have based their data holdings upon Recorder-6 and have spent lots of time and money building additional services which interact with the Recorder database. There also seems to be a push towards online cloud based systems (though nothing to replace Recorder has been built or specified to date). To my mind (personal opinion) this could see the demise of some LRCs as they currently operate on extremely tight finances and any potential; moves requiring both faster Internet lines AND the possibility of costs associated with Cloud based storage of large volumes of data could see them unable to finance further future operation.

Consequently, whether you are a user of Recorder-6 or not, could I please ask you to consider completing the consultation questions - see link to the online form below.

Following discussion amongst its own members, ALERC (The Association of Local Environmental Records Centres), had already planned a two part consultation on future recording database system developments. Part 1, conveniently, is a consultation on Recorder 6 developed by Andy Foy on behalf of ALERC's London and South East Regional group (LaSER). If you have views to share please avoid the Christmas rush and respond before December 15th if you can. The consultation form is now live at: https://www.cognitoforms.com/SxBRC/Reco ... nsultation

You might also like to add your comments to the discussion on the NBN Forum - (https://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewforum.php?id=5).

Information about the Part 2 consultation will follow in due course.

Many thanks.
