Shieldbug - Eysarcoris aeneus ?
On 05/07/2013 while looking for larvae in my Great Sutton garden I found a shieldbug. I photographed it and using 'A Photographic Guide to Shieldbugs and Squashbugs of the British Isles' by Martin Evans and Roger Edmondson, I identified it as Eysarcoris aeneus, although the flight period and distribution both cast a shadow of doubt. A friend looked at one of my images and agreed with my ID, and also thought that it might be uncommon in Cheshire, having never seen one himself.
I would appreciate any comments regarding my identification and, if I am correct, any other information that anyone might have about the distribution in Cheshire.
Two images are attached. One taken in shade and the other in brighter light.
Mel.

Mel,
I am unsure about your ID here. Your query relates to Eysarcoris aeneus New Forest Shieldbug but your pictures are labelled Eysarcoris fabricii (now with a name change to Eysarcoris venustissimus Woundwort Shieldbug).
I personally think they are Eysarcoris venustissimus Woundwort Shieldbug.
Have you accidentally transposed something here ??
Cheers.
Steve

Hi Steve,
You are of course right.
I had identified it as E.fabricii, and my friend had agreed with the ID, but I had labelled my images incorrectly.
I then took the name from my images. A lesson learned.
Many thanks,
Mel.
