Bordered Shieldbug?

Bordered Shieldbug?

Hello All,

I came across what I think is a Bordered Shieldbug on Saturday (06/06/2015). I recognised it as a bug, but not one I've seen before, so I took a photo of it to give me a fighting chance of identifying it.

It seems to look like the Bordered Shieldbug (Legnotus limbosus), but I wondered if anyone could confirm this ID for me please?

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric,

Yes, it is Legnotus limbosus - the corium is brown and your photo distinctly shows that the central lobe of the head is the shorter than the outer the outer two lobes.

Looks like a good record mate.

See here: http://www.britishbugs.org.uk/heteropte ... bosus.html

Cheers.
Steve

Thanks for the assistance Steve, and for posting the key to the bugs in a previous post - really helpful.

The coverage suggests it is more common further South. There are a couple of records on the NBN that are fairly close (Market Drayton & Llandudno Junction). However, I am not sure how comprehensive the NBN data holdings are for Heteroptera.
