Clearly an earwig even though dead, found at SJ2482, Heswall Field Cliff.

Looks like the Common or European Earwig (Forficula auricularia Linnaeus, 1758) to me !

No problem Mike. It is how we ALL learn. And even then we still ALL make mistakes.
By the way - any chance you could use the G-Map in RODIS and zoom in to get a 6-figure or even (preferably to my mind) an 8-figure Grid Ref ??

I was doing survey by grid square at time, often do 6 or 8 fig for records, especially if it is one or two individuals.
