Minotaur Beetle (female) Delamere Forest

Post by wirralbirder »

Minotaur Beetle (female) Delamere Forest:

Hi All,

Whilst out mothing in Delamere Forest this Dor Beetle was extracted from the moth-trap. I feel sure that it is a female Minotaur Beetle. I would like confirmation before sending in the record. Also at the trap was Great Diving Beetle (Dytiscus marginalis).

Cheers
H.

Hello H,

Yes, you're right about that. A female Typhaeus typhoeus. Not common in Cheshire and 5 records that I know of, a couple of which are in the Delamere area.

Cheers,
Don

Hi Don,

Nice to have it confirmed. My only previous contact with the species was on St Martins in the isles of Scilly where we found several very imposing males. Now to put the record into rECOrd.

Thanks again Don; much appreciated.

H.

Hello H,

It's a pleasure!

You are one of the few people keeping this forum going these days!
There is discussion about Cheshire beetles by others but it never gets posted here.

The 12 Typhaeus I can immediately find in my collection are all from two sites; Allerthorpe Common, Yorkshire, 1991 (9) and Tubney, Oxfordshire, 1949 (3) and none of which I collected.

Cheers,
Don
