Cryptarcha strigata

Cryptarcha strigata :

I think it's about time this forum had more posts so let's start with this one.

After further examination by the county recorder, the beetle reported as Cryptarcha undata (Olivier) and taken by Clive Washington from an Oak tree at Lindow Moss SJ83353 81301 on 06/03/2015, has been re-identified as Cryptarcha strigata (F).

Although nationally it is apparently a commoner species than undata there are only three records in the Cheshire database, one of which is probably a duplicate. There is a record from the early 1900's in the Delamere area then a long gap to the next from the River Weaver Valley woodlands in 1984. So it's a good find!

You can see an image of both species here: http://coleoptera.ksib.pl/search.php?taxonid=17825&l=en

Cheers,
Don
