Tortoise beetle larvae?

Post by fletcher »

Hello all, I have been sent the attached pics from an interested party who wondered what it was. I am fairly certain it is a tortoise beetle larva, but I am of course happy to be corrected. Is there any chance of idying this species from the attached pics?

It was found on knapweed if that helps.

Cheers,

Eric

I think you are right. Probably Cassida rubiginosa as it is on knapweed, though I believe one of the rarer ones will also use this plant.

Thanks John, the record was taken from the Ceriog valley somewhere.

I will let the recorder know.

Thanks again,
